| Duties: | General Statement of Duties
Provides medical treatment, care, counseling of inmate population in accordance with standard nursing practices and theory, agency regulations, physician orders, instructions from higher level nursing staff.
Essential Functions of the Class:
Duties include sick call assessments, medication administration, monitoring and treatment of communicable disease, patient education, responding to emergencies. This individual will keep and maintain all records of dispensing medication and patient medical history, and all treatment documentation. This individual will be required to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Illustrative Examples of Work
Assess inmates for medical treatment.
Administer medication to inmates as directed by the Detention Center Medical Doctor.
Account for and maintain all records of dispensed medication and medical treatment of inmates in custody of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.
Respond to and monitor all emergency actions involving medical personnel within the Alamance County Detention Center.
Check and monitor inmates for communicable diseases.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be a licensed Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing without restrictions.
Must have medical knowledge to complete physical assessments and make sound clinical judgments.
Must have experience in Phlebotomy sticks, medication administration, transcribing MD/PA orders, patient education and medical documentation required.
Prior computer and data entry experience, infectious disease monitoring & verifying and formulating medical histories.

| Qualifications: | Minimum Experience & Training
Graduation from a State Accredited School of Professional Nursing.
A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
